LOGANVILLE, Gwinnett County — An arrest has been made in connection with the homicide of a pregnant 16-year-old girl whose body was found in the woods early Monday morning. Authorities say the family of Mia Campos reported her missing on Sunday night, and her body was later discovered using a cell phone tracking app.

The initial evidence at the scene made it difficult to determine the cause of Campos’ death, but an autopsy on Tuesday confirmed that she was the victim of a homicide. On Wednesday, officials announced the arrest of Campos’ ex-boyfriend, Jesus Monroy, on a charge of providing false statements to law enforcement.

According to Sgt. Collin Flynn, during an interview with Monroy, it was determined that he had given false information to the police. Monroy had reportedly been staying with Mia’s family for the past two days.

The grieving parents, Edward and Miriam Campos, are still seeking answers surrounding their daughter’s death. Edward described finding Mia’s lifeless body face down in the woods, expressing his anguish at the loss. The couple had used a phone tracking app after Mia failed to return home and made the devastating discovery.

Campos was seven months pregnant at the time of her death, adding to the tragedy experienced by her family. Edward shared that they continue to pray every night, and the sight of a small bird near the spot where Mia was found gave them some solace.

The investigation into Mia Campos’ death is ongoing, and law enforcement is urging anyone with information to contact the Gwinnett County Police Department or the local Crime Stoppers tip line.
