MAYSVILLE, Colo. – The mystery surrounding the disappearance of Suzanne Morphew, a Colorado woman who vanished on Mother’s Day 2020, has taken a significant turn. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation confirmed that her remains were discovered in Saguache County, about 50 miles south of her last known location.

Morphew, 49, was reported missing after she failed to return from a bike ride near her home in Maysville, Colorado. The search for her has been ongoing since her disappearance, with her case garnering national attention. The discovery of her remains marks a significant development in the investigation, though many questions remain unanswered.

The remains were found during an unrelated investigation in the area of Moffat in Saguache County. The El Paso County Coroner confirmed the identity of the remains on Wednesday. Despite the discovery, no arrests have been made in connection with Morphew’s disappearance and death.

Morphew’s husband, Barry, was previously charged with first-degree murder in 2021, but the case was dismissed in April 2022 as investigators continued their search for Suzanne. The dismissal, however, does not preclude the possibility of future charges against Barry Morphew.

Barry Morphew has consistently maintained his innocence. In a May 2022 interview with ABC’s Good Morning America, he expressed his longing for his wife’s safe return, stating, “I love my wife. I just want her to be found.”

The 11th Judicial District Attorney’s office, led by Linda Stanley, has not commented on potential plans for future prosecution. Meanwhile, the Chafee County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to the investigation. Sheriff John Spezze stated, “We have never stopped our investigation and will continue to follow all leads in pursuit of justice for Suzanne.”

Anne Kelly, the district attorney for the 12th Judicial District where Morphew’s remains were found, said the case is still under active investigation. She expressed condolences to Suzanne’s family and promised an update in the coming weeks.

The discovery of Suzanne Morphew’s remains brings a tragic end to her family’s three-year search. As the investigation continues, authorities are withholding details about the state of Morphew’s remains and the exact location of their discovery. The case remains a poignant reminder of the many unsolved disappearances across the country.
