A 65-year-old security guard at a senior living apartment complex in Georgia has been arrested and charged with the murder of a 90-year-old resident. Janet Williams is accused of stabbing Chun Ki Kim more than 50 times in a brutal attack that took place in September. Authorities have revealed that Williams even attempted to insert herself into the murder investigation.
The Atlanta Police Department responded to a distress call at the apartment complex on Sidney Marcus Boulevard NE on the morning of September 25. Upon arrival, they discovered Kim’s body on the kitchen floor of his apartment, with multiple stab wounds. Medical personnel at the scene pronounced Kim dead.
The investigation into Kim’s death was initially handled by the Atlanta Police Department’s Homicide Unit. Williams was later identified as the prime suspect and was taken into custody last week. The arrest warrant, as reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, provided further details about the gruesome attack. Kim was reportedly stabbed in the face and midsection between 50 and 60 times.
In a strange turn of events, Williams allegedly tried to involve herself in the investigation. She reportedly stayed near Kim’s apartment to observe the detectives at work and even managed to gain access to another apartment on the same floor, which had a Ring doorbell camera that could have captured relevant footage.
The warrant also states that Williams attempted to gain insight into the investigation by asking about the evidence collected by the police. However, the motive behind the attack remains unclear. The arrest warrant reportedly states, “Williams stabbed Mr. Kim to death,” but does not provide any insight into her intentions.
The apartment complex is equipped with surveillance cameras, but none were positioned to capture footage of individuals entering or exiting specific apartments. However, the security footage did show Williams taking the elevator to the fifth floor of the building on September 24. She was seen wearing her security uniform, glasses, a face mask, and carrying a reusable red grocery bag.
The footage also showed Williams returning to the elevator a few minutes later, without her glasses or face mask, and with a new tear in her pants that appeared to be stained with a substance resembling blood. The warrant also noted that Williams appeared “stressed” in the footage and seemed to be limping.
Although only Kim’s wallet and a baseball hat were reported missing from his apartment, the police suspect that Williams may have taken something else. The warrant states that the red bag Williams was carrying appeared to be fuller when she left the apartment.
Williams is currently being held in the Fulton County Jail without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on November 4.
