Seventh Body Found in Austin’s Lady Bird Lake in 2024

In a series of unsettling events, another body has been discovered in the well-known Lady Bird Lake in Austin, Texas. This marks the seventh body found in the lake in 2024, adding to the growing concern and mystery surrounding the area. The most recent discovery was made on Friday when local law enforcement responded to reports of a deceased individual floating near the 1st Street Bridge and the 300 block of Cesar Chavez.

The Austin Police Department (APD) has stated that there are no immediate signs of foul play, as the body exhibited no signs of trauma. However, an investigation into the incident is ongoing. Despite the APD’s efforts to alleviate community concerns, speculation and questions continue to circulate.

The majority of the deaths have been attributed to accidental drownings by the police, given the lake’s close proximity to several nightclubs and bars. The most recent body was discovered on December 1st.

The victim was later identified as 73-year-old Thi Lang Nguyen. According to Austin police, there is no apparent connection between Nguyen’s death and the other bodies found in the lake this year.

In a separate incident in September, a man was reported behaving erratically near East Cesar Chavez and Nueces Streets. He subsequently entered the water and failed to resurface. His body was later recovered and he was pronounced dead.

Earlier in the year, in February, a woman’s body was discovered approximately 20 feet from the north shore. In April, a fisherman reported seeing another body floating in the water. In July, a man was found on a trail near Rainey Street, suffering from blunt force trauma. He was pronounced dead shortly after. In September, another body was discovered along a trail near the lake off Pleasant Valley Road.
