Winnetka, Illinois – A shootout ensued when a homeowner confronted three individuals attempting to steal his vehicles in Winnetka, Illinois on Monday morning. The incident unfolded around 5 a.m. in the 400 block of Sheridan Road, according to a Facebook post from the Winnetka Police Department. The father of five, who was awakened by the sound of his car starting, confronted the suspects, ultimately exchanging gunfire with one of them.

In an interview with ABC7 Chicago, the homeowner revealed that he discovered three unidentified individuals trying to steal his Range Rover and Maserati. The suspects had gained access to his car keys after breaking into his front office. Concerned for the safety of his five sleeping daughters, the homeowner confronted the suspects and warned them to stop. When one of the suspects fired a shot at him, the homeowner fired back in self-defense, as confirmed by the Winnetka Police Department.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries in the incident. Two of the suspects managed to flee the scene in an unknown vehicle, while the third suspect left on foot. The police described two of the suspects as possibly male, wearing black masks, hoodies, and dark pants or athletic pants. The third suspect’s gender and race remain unknown, and they are believed to have fled in a silver Audi Sedan with four doors.

Authorities have stated that Monday’s incident appears to be an isolated event. However, nearby resident Tim Connell expressed some concern over the shooting. Although he would not expect such an incident to occur, he acknowledged feeling uneasy and admitted that he would likely let the theft occur without intervening.
