A tragic incident unfolded in Brazil on Saturday when a Chilean woman, Carolina Muñoz Kennedy, 40, died during a skydiving attempt. The horrifying event was captured on video, showing Kennedy spiraling uncontrollably towards the ground after both her primary and backup parachutes failed to deploy properly. Onlookers watched in shock as she plummeted, eventually crashing onto a road in Boituva, Brazil.
Kennedy was seen desperately trying to rectify the malfunctioning parachutes, but her efforts were in vain as she continued to descend at a terrifying speed. The video shows her disappearing behind the tree-line while the rest of the skydiving crew watched in horror from the ground.
Kennedy, an experienced skydiver, had attempted an emergency procedure during her fall. Remarkably, she survived the initial impact and was attended to by paramedics at the scene. However, she later succumbed to her injuries at a nearby hospital, according to reports from The Sun.
Eyewitness José Soares de Melo recounted the distressing scene to local media. He described finding Kennedy on the ground, with bystanders frantically calling for emergency services. “I felt incredibly sad, shocked,” he said.
Following the incident, police initiated an investigation and confiscated Kennedy’s high-performance skydiving equipment for forensic examination. Kennedy was not a novice in the sport. She had completed several jumps, including some earlier that day, with the fatal fall intended to be her final jump for the day.
Kennedy was a registered member of the Brazilian Skydiving Confederation, which is also preparing a report on the accident’s causes. The Confederation expressed their condolences to Kennedy’s family and the skydiving community, reaffirming their commitment to the safety and integrity of all participants in the sport.
Friends and family of Kennedy expressed their grief on social media. Marisel Karina Pacini Lepe, a friend from Chile, posted a heartfelt message on Facebook, remembering Kennedy as a beautiful, intelligent, and kind friend. She expressed hope that Kennedy could continue to pursue her passion wherever she may be.
