Stevie Nicks, the renowned 76-year-old singer, recently faced a serious health scare. Earlier this month, she had to cancel a solo performance in Glasgow, Scotland, due to a reported leg injury that necessitated surgery. However, during the rescheduled concert on July 24, Nicks disclosed that her health issue was far more severe than initially reported.
Nicks, during the concert, shared with her fans that she had contracted a severe infection. “I don’t know what happened. I just got this weird infection, and it just went crazy,” she said. The Fleetwood Mac singer was in Glasgow for her concert on July 6, staying in a castle. She explained that she had arrived days earlier to enjoy the city before her performance.
The severity of her condition became apparent late one night when she told her assistant that they needed to go to the hospital. A local butler drove them to the hospital in his BMW Sedan. Nicks spent two days in the hospital before returning to the castle and making the decision to cancel the Glasgow show.
Nicks shared with her audience that she had been battling the infection throughout her tour. She was determined to return to Glasgow, despite her health issues, which led to the postponement of her July 6 Glasgow show and her July 9 Manchester show. The Glasgow venue OVO Hydro announced the postponements on X (formerly Twitter), citing a leg injury that required minor surgery and recovery time.
Nicks managed to perform at the rescheduled Manchester show on July 16. She also performed at BST Hyde Park in London on July 12, despite her health scare. During this performance, she invited Harry Styles to join her for a duet of her iconic song “Landslide,” in tribute to the late Christine McVie, a core member of Fleetwood Mac who passed away at 79 in November 2022 after suffering a stroke and being diagnosed with cancer.
Nicks shared with the audience at BST Hyde Park that asking Styles to perform the song was a heavy decision, given that it was about her best friend who had died so suddenly and tragically. She also revealed that she doesn’t see Fleetwood Mac continuing without McVie, stating, “When Christine died, I felt like you can’t replace her. You just can’t. Without her, what is it? You know what I mean?”
