SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — After a weeks-long search, Alvin McKnight Jr., the Texas man accused of killing two sisters, was apprehended by police in San Bernardino, California. Body camera footage obtained by CBS affiliate KYTX shows the dramatic arrest, with officers pointing their weapons at McKnight as he exits a bus.
McKnight, 41, was wanted in connection with the shooting deaths of Dermetrica Waters, 37, and Mandy Ray, 35, on November 4. The women’s bodies were discovered at a residence in Gilmer, Texas, where McKnight had a relationship with Waters and reportedly shared a child with her.
During the arrest, officers can be heard commanding McKnight not to reach for anything, warning him that he will be shot if he does. McKnight complied and did not resist arrest. He is currently awaiting extradition back to Texas, which could take several weeks.
Prior to his capture, McKnight had been added to the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitive List by the Texas Department of Public Safety. His reward for information leading to his arrest had been set at over $17,000. Authorities discovered that McKnight had boarded a bus in Abilene, Texas and coordinated with California authorities to apprehend him when it arrived in San Bernardino.
According to an investigation led by the Texas Department of Public Safety, McKnight is believed to be affiliated with the “52 Hoover Crips gang.” Local police agencies, including the Upshur County Police and the Gilmer Police Department, collaborated in the investigation.
As the extradition process takes place, McKnight will soon be transported from California back to Texas to face charges related to the double homicide.
