CYPRESS, TX – A 15-year-old boy from Texas has been apprehended and charged with the murder of his 62-year-old neighbor, Dana Magnuson. The teenager, whose identity has been withheld due to his age, allegedly confessed to investigators that he committed the crime out of curiosity, wanting to experience what it felt like to stab someone.
Magnuson, a school bus driver, was discovered dead with multiple stab wounds in a shed behind her Hockley residence on July 20. Authorities believe the initial attack took place in her hot tub, with the struggle subsequently moving to her house and finally the shed where her body was found.
Tyler Pitney, Magnuson’s son, expressed his shock and grief over the gruesome scene. He stated that the reality of his mother’s death hadn’t fully sunk in yet. He described the crime scene as being covered in blood.
The teenage suspect was arrested nine days after the incident. According to sources, he confessed to investigators that he wanted to know what it felt like to stab someone. The boy was a neighbor of the victim and was known to assist her with various chores, such as maintaining her lawn.
Pitney described the suspect as an ordinary-looking kid from a decent home. He expressed his hope that the teenager would be tried as an adult for the heinous crime. Pitney remembered his mother as the most loving and kindest person, stating that her death was a great loss to the world.
Magnuson, who was also a marathon runner, was known to speak to her son daily. She left behind two sons. A GoFundMe page set up by one of her sons to cover funeral expenses had raised over $1,700 by Friday.
In a heartfelt tribute on the fundraising page, Pitney wrote about his mother’s generosity and love for everyone, stating that she would go to great lengths to help anyone in need, especially her friends and family. The teenage suspect is currently being held at the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center.
