A teenage girl has been arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing that took place in the early hours of Sunday, August 27, 2023, on the 1900 block of 14th Street, Northwest, according to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch. The incident occurred outside a local establishment, where a juvenile female was reportedly stabbed. Despite immediate medical attention, the victim, identified as 16-year-old Naima Liggon of Waldorf, MD, succumbed to her injuries at a nearby hospital.
The suspect, also a 16-year-old female from Waldorf, MD, was apprehended on the same day and charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed. The arresting officers found her in possession of a knife. The incident reportedly took place outside a McDonald’s restaurant in northwest Washington, D.C., with the dispute allegedly arising over McDonald’s sauces.
The victim, Naima Liggon, was rushed to the hospital by a privately owned vehicle after the stabbing. The authorities were alerted to the incident when they received a call from the hospital about a juvenile female seeking treatment for stab wounds. The subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the suspect.
According to court testimonies, the two girls were together at the McDonald’s, ordered food, and later got into a car together. The argument over the sauces they received escalated, resulting in the fatal stabbing. The suspect, during her court appearance on Monday, claimed that she acted in self-defense after being knocked to the ground by Liggon and another individual during the dispute. The judge ordered her to remain in juvenile detention until the trial.
Naima Liggon was a student at Thomas Stone High School in Waldorf. The school’s principal, Shanif Pearl, expressed his grief over the incident in a message to parents, staff, and students, stating that it was a “heartbreaking and tragic time for our school community.”
Liggon’s family released a statement describing Naima as a “beautiful, smart, funny, and unique young lady who loved life.” They highlighted her love for music, arts, basketball, and her budding skills as a barber. She had recently secured a job at Krispy Kreme and was preparing to get her driver’s license. The family expressed their grief over the senseless loss and urged parents to cherish their children.
