A 17-year-old girl from Reno, Nevada, is facing charges for the murder of her father and brother, with police saying she claimed to have been compelled by an uncontrollable urge to kill. Mashenka Ann Marie Reid has been charged with two counts of open murder with a deadly weapon and one count of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, according to records from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.

The tragic incident took place on February 9 at an apartment on Silver State Parkway in the North Valleys neighborhood. The details of the case were revealed in court documents obtained by the Reno Gazette-Journal. Reid allegedly made a 911 call, admitting to shooting her father and brother and stating that her brother had died.

During the call, the dispatcher asked if either victim was still breathing, to which Reid replied that she did not know. She claimed to have dropped the murder weapon, a Walther PPS, inside their residence. When asked about the motive, Reid allegedly told the dispatcher that she couldn’t resist the urge to kill somebody.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered the deceased father in the garage, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and back. They also found the accused killer’s younger brother, a 4 or 5-year-old boy, shot in the head while lying on a couch in the living room. Emergency medical services arrived but were unable to save either victim.

Reid’s younger sister was found alive after an officer kicked in a door at the back of the apartment, responding to a neighbor’s report of gunshots and cries for help. Reid was taken into custody and brought to the Reno Police Department headquarters for questioning. However, she invoked her right to remain silent and did not provide any further information.

In addition to the initial charges, Reid was later charged with attempted murder. The names of the victims have not been released by the Washoe County Medical Examiner, and it is unclear if Reid has legal representation. She is currently being held without bail in the county jail.
