Seacrest Beach, Fla. – A teenager who was attacked by a shark in Florida has undergone surgery to amputate parts of her left hand and right leg. Ann Blair Gribbin, the mother of the victim, provided an update on her daughter’s condition in a blog post. Despite the traumatic incident, Lulu Gribbin is reportedly “alert” and recovering.

Ann confirmed that Lulu is awake and engaging in conversation after the surgery to address the amputations caused by the shark attack. The incident occurred on June 7 at Seacrest Beach, Florida. Ann expressed gratitude that her daughter’s spirit and personality remain unchanged despite her physical injuries.

Lulu has already undergone the first of many surgeries to clean and close the wounds. Doctors are also searching for shark teeth, a request made by Lulu herself. Ann shared that she and her husband had the opportunity to meet the two men who saved Lulu’s life by intervening during the attack. Lulu expressed her appreciation, telling them, “Thank you for saving my life.”

The recovery process for Lulu is ongoing, with additional surgeries planned for her injuries. The removal of her central line, a medical tube connected internally to her heart, marked another significant milestone. Lulu, who aspires to be a doctor herself, requested to witness the line being removed.

Ann also provided details about Lulu’s dietary progress, noting that she is transitioning off a “clear” diet and has begun enjoying apple sauce, Jello, Gatorade, and even a bomb pop.

Lulu was one of three victims attacked by sharks on two neighboring Florida beaches on June 7. Ann had shared the harrowing experience of finding her daughter lifeless on the beach, alongside her friend who was also attacked. Lulu was airlifted to Sacred Heart in Pensacola, where she underwent surgery for her injuries.

Despite the difficult journey ahead, Ann remains optimistic and believes that divine intervention played a part in saving her daughter’s life. The South Walton Fire District (SWFD) beach safety director, David Vaughn, has suggested that the same shark may have been involved in both attacks.

As Lulu continues her recovery, her family and the community rally around her, offering support and well wishes during this challenging time.
