A 15-year-old student was the victim of a shooting incident outside his high school in Brooklyn on Tuesday afternoon, according to police and law enforcement sources. The teenager was reportedly shot in the right leg by another adolescent around 2:40 p.m. outside South Shore High School on Flatlands Avenue in Canarsie. Following the incident, the victim attempted to flee the scene but collapsed a short distance away.
Law enforcement officers were dispatched to the intersection of Glenwood Road and East 58th Street, which is in close proximity to the public school. The injured boy was transported to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was reported to be in stable condition.
The alleged shooter, also thought to be a teenager, reportedly escaped on foot. As of Tuesday evening, the reason behind the violent act remained uncertain. It was noted that the school does have a system in place to check students for weapons.
This incident follows a fatal shooting that occurred three days prior, in which 17-year-old Sincere Campbell was killed in an early morning attack in the Bronx. Campbell was shot in the stomach on Evergreen Avenue near Westchester Avenue in Soundview, a short distance from his residence, around 3:25 a.m. on Saturday. He was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. The perpetrator reportedly fled the scene in a black sedan, and the motive for the murder was still unclear as of Tuesday.
In another incident last Thursday, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg near a high school on Staten Island. The shooting took place around 1 p.m. outside Ralph R. McKee Career and Technical Education High School in St. George. The victim was taken to Richmond University Medical Center, where he was reported to be in stable condition.
