A tragic incident has unfolded in Majorca, Spain, involving a 24-year-old student, Agostina Rubini Medina, who had been missing for over a fortnight. Authorities are investigating the possibility that Medina, who vanished following an evening out with friends in Palma, the capital of the well-known tourist island, may have accidentally fallen into a garbage bin, leading to her being crushed and incinerated in a garbage truck.

The Spanish National Police have constructed a harrowing hypothesis. They suggest that Medina, who was under the influence of alcohol, might have been looking for her mobile phone in a garbage bin. It is believed that she may have lost consciousness and was subsequently picked up by a garbage truck, crushed by the truck’s compactor, and ultimately disposed of in an incinerator.

A local store employee reported that Medina, who appeared to be drunk, had come in to buy a bag of chips just before midnight. Shortly after, a passerby at a nearby bus stop reported seeing Medina’s purse and blouse neatly placed next to a large garbage bin.

Further inquiries revealed that Medina’s phone signal stayed at the location of the garbage bin for about half an hour before moving to the incineration plant, where it stopped. This timeline coincides with the travel records of the garbage truck.

Later, authorities found human skeletal remains in the incineration plant’s ashes. They are now trying to ascertain if these remains are Medina’s. Inspector Ángel Ruiz informed reporters that the prevailing theory is that Medina entered the bin to retrieve something and unfortunately became unwell while inside.

Police highlighted that Medina was a small woman with a low alcohol tolerance, a situation that might have been worsened by medication she was taking at the time.
