In a tragic incident in New Albany, Indiana, a mother of three was fatally shot by her ex-partner while she was recording a TikTok video with a friend. The victim, 25-year-old Kaitlynn Lee, had previously expressed fears to a friend that if she were ever found dead, her ex-partner, Joshua Thompson, would be responsible.
According to court documents, Thompson, also 25, arrived at an apartment where Lee was staying with a friend. Ignoring a protective order that had been issued against him following a domestic violence incident in April, Thompson began banging on a window with a gun. Lee and her friend were in the middle of recording a TikTok video, dancing and lip-syncing to a song, when Thompson appeared at the window. Moments later, he fired the gun, striking Lee in the head.
The court documents provide a chilling account of the incident, captured on the TikTok video. The two women are seen turning away from the camera and looking towards the kitchen window. A blast is then seen from the window area, and Lee’s body falls out of view. The video ends with smoke visible in the room.
Following the shooting, Thompson reportedly called 911, prompted by his brother, and confessed to shooting Lee. He admitted to going to the apartment to check if she was with other men, despite the active no-contact order against him. The court documents describe a “toxic relationship” between Thompson and Lee, who were frequently at odds.
In the wake of this tragic event, a GoFundMe campaign has been set up by Lee’s cousin, Jannette, to raise funds for Lee’s funeral and to support her three children. The campaign highlights the devastating impact of the incident, stating that the children now have to grow up without their mother due to “someone’s selfish actions.”
