An Israeli soldier who also holds Turkish citizenship has come under pressure in Turkey after Islamist groups launched a public campaign calling for her arrest, publishing her personal details online and urging authorities to pursue criminal charges, according to the material provided, Ynet reports.
The campaign followed the release of an IDF report responding to a freedom of information request that detailed the scope of dual citizenship among Israeli service members.
The report showed that 112 soldiers currently serving in the IDF also hold Turkish citizenship, part of a much larger group of soldiers with foreign nationalities.
The soldier targeted in the campaign is currently in Istanbul, according to the material.
Islamist groups based in Ankara circulated social media posts identifying her as a “Zionist soldier with dual citizenship” and portraying her presence in the city as an urgent matter.
The posts cited images previously shared on her public Instagram account, which the groups said showed her service in the IDF and expressions of support for Israel’s military activity since Oct. 7, 2023.
The activists called on Turkish law enforcement authorities to detain the soldier and referenced what they described as an investigative file allegedly opened at the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The complaint urged prosecutors to examine the case under Articles 76 and 77 of Turkey’s penal code, which address genocide and crimes against humanity, according to the campaign materials.
The messaging extended beyond the individual case.
Posts circulating online called for exposing Israeli soldiers who hold Turkish citizenship and bringing them before Turkish courts.
The language used included harsh rhetoric directed at dual nationals serving in the Israeli military and urged supporters to publicize their identities.
The controversy intensified after further details from the IDF report became public. According to the data, 50,632 soldiers currently serving in the military hold at least one additional citizenship beyond their Israeli nationality.
Of those, 4,440 soldiers have two foreign citizenships, while 162 hold three additional citizenships alongside their Israeli one.
The figures drew angry reactions from some political figures and civil society groups in Ankara, according to the material provided.
The data fueled renewed debate in Turkey over citizens who serve in foreign militaries, particularly the IDF.
No confirmation was included that Turkish authorities have formally opened a criminal investigation or issued an arrest warrant against the soldier. The IDF has not publicly commented on the campaign or the calls for her arrest.
