Two men from Missouri are facing charges related to the death of eight puppies due to heat exhaustion. The puppies were found in a sealed plastic container left outside a local humane society that was closed for the day. Seth Vaile, 30, is facing eight counts of animal abuse, while Samuel Allen, 36, is also facing charges as part of the ongoing investigation, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.
The tragic discovery was made on a Sunday when employees of the Jasper County Humane Society found the deceased puppies in the container outside their facility at 140 E. Emperor Lane. The authorities were alerted to the case of animal abuse on Monday at 11:40 a.m., leading to an investigation.
The caller who reported the incident had found the container hidden between two bushes on the property. A subsequent veterinary examination determined that the puppies had succumbed to heat exhaustion. Surveillance footage from the facility showed a man leaving the container between the bushes and walking away on Sunday at 10:27 a.m.
The container was partially hidden between bushes, halfway on the sidewalk, and exposed to the sun. The container was sealed, creating a completely enclosed space. The man seen in the surveillance footage, wearing a shirt with the number 54 on the back, was quickly identified as Vaile.
Vaile was arrested on a warrant and taken to the Jasper County Detention Center. At the time of his arrest, he was still wearing the shirt with the number 54 on the back. According to the probable cause statement, Vaile confessed to leaving the puppies at the location, knowing that the facility was closed.
Connie Andrews, the director of the Humane Society, expressed her dismay on Facebook. She questioned why the person responsible did not leave the puppies by the door where they could be easily found. She also emphasized that the shelter would never turn away puppies, even if their owner could not afford the drop-off fees. Andrews urged the public to understand that such actions are unacceptable.
