Brooklyn, NY – Two innocent girls, aged 9 and 11, were injured in a shooting incident at a park on Monday evening, according to police. The young victims were caught in the crossfire while playing at Hilltop Playground in Brownsville while one of their mothers was present. The incident occurred when two gunmen, who were aiming at a different target, fired at least six shots.
Both girls sustained injuries, with the 11-year-old being struck in the back and the other girl shot in the right leg. Following the incident, the victims were immediately transported to Brookdale Hospital by private means. Thankfully, they are currently in stable condition and receiving treatment from the medical staff.
Police recovered two different types of shell casings at the scene, indicating that there were two shooters involved in the incident. Authorities believe that the girls were innocent bystanders and not the intended targets. While the NYPD is investigating the possibility of the shooting being gang-related, no motive has been identified thus far.
Assistant Chief Scott Henderson, commanding officer of Patrol Borough Brooklyn North, expressed relief that both girls are conscious and alert, acknowledging the excellent care they are receiving at the hospital. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
