A 23-year-old US Army sergeant was discovered deceased in a dumpster in Missouri after she did not show up for duty earlier this week. A suspect is currently under investigation in relation to her death. Sgt. Sarah Roque’s body was discovered on Monday evening, as reported by the US Army Fort Leonard Wood.
Sgt. Roque is suspected to have been a victim of murder. Her remains were located in a dumpster in proximity to housing for single soldiers. A suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, was apprehended on Thursday in relation to the murder.
Roque was declared missing after she did not report for duty on Monday morning. Officials at Fort Leonard Wood announced the news of an arrest in the case. The Department of Army Criminal Investigation Division is treating her death as a homicide.
Maj. Gen. Christopher Beck expressed his sorrow over the incident during a press conference on Thursday. He described it as a tragedy and stressed its impact on Roque’s family and unit.
Roque, a native of Ligonier, Indiana, joined the army in 2020 and served as a mine dog handler.
