The tragic death of a Utah-based software company CEO occurred over the weekend when he fell approximately 200 feet while climbing in Zion National Park, Springdale, Utah, as confirmed by park officials. Justin Bingham, 40, was canyoneering near Heaps Canyon’s exit around 6 p.m. on Saturday when the unfortunate incident happened. The National Parks Service (NPS) confirmed that Bingham was with three other climbers, all adhering to their permitted itinerary.
Upon receiving the report of the fall, the Zion National Park Technical Search and Rescue Team, along with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, promptly arrived at the scene to provide emergency medical care. Bingham was airlifted by a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter to a location where he received additional medical assistance. However, despite the efforts, Bingham was pronounced dead before he could be transported to a hospital by air ambulance.
Zion National Park Superintendent Jeff Bradybaugh expressed his deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Bingham during this challenging time. Bingham was the CEO of Opiniion, a software company located in Lindon, just outside Provo, specializing in property management solutions. The company confirmed Bingham’s death and stated that the tragic accident occurred while he was indulging in one of his favorite pastimes, outdoor exploration.
Opiniion described Bingham as a visionary who believed in the power of genuine connections, both with clients and within the team. His dedication to building meaningful relationships had a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His adventurous spirit and commitment to living life to the fullest will be deeply missed, the company added.
Opiniion President and COO Devin Shurtleff shared that Bingham was an eternal optimist who always believed that everything would work out. He wasn’t just a leader at Opiniion, but also a mentor, a father, and a friend to many. He believed that the relationships we build make our work meaningful, and he lived that belief every day, Shurtleff added.
The exact cause of Bingham’s death is still under investigation by Zion National Park and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
