Woman Accused of Murdering Roommate, Hiding Body in Freezer

Jazlynn Roush, a resident of Las Vegas, is facing accusations of murdering her 68-year-old roommate, Monique Gilbertson, by administering a lethal dose of fentanyl-laced cocaine. According to law enforcement, Roush allegedly concealed Gilbertson’s body in her freezer for approximately two weeks.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department was alerted to the situation when the manager of the property where Gilbertson’s mobile home was located noticed unusual activities. Gilbertson’s car was parked differently, and her dogs were barking more than usual. On November 6, the manager requested a welfare check on Gilbertson after several unsuccessful attempts to contact her.

Gilbertson had been sharing her home with Roush, who had legally changed her name from Daniel Roush in 2022. The two had met at a Home Depot where Gilbertson had hired Roush for handy work. The police were dispatched to their residence, located eight miles east of the Las Vegas strip, but received no response when they knocked on the door.

Upon entering the home, officers found two individuals who could not provide information about Gilbertson’s whereabouts. A subsequent search of the premises led to the discovery of a deceased female in a freezer. Both individuals were detained for further investigation.

Roush’s wife, who had been intermittently staying at the residence, was the second individual present during the police visit. In her statement to the police, Roush admitted to discovering Gilbertson’s body about a week before Halloween. She claimed that Gilbertson had consumed drugs. Roush also confessed to placing Gilbertson’s body in the freezer, stating she was unsure of what to do next.

However, Roush did not disclose that she had allegedly given Gilbertson cocaine laced with fentanyl. Prosecutors have accused Roush of intentionally causing Gilbertson’s death. Roush’s wife later informed the police that she had witnessed Roush giving Gilbertson the fentanyl-laced cocaine. Investigators believe that Roush continued to live in the mobile home for about two weeks with Gilbertson’s body in the freezer.

The property manager, Demecia Lopez, told police that Gilbertson had expressed dissatisfaction with living with Roush due to her untidiness and frequent drug use. Gilbertson had reportedly tried to evict Roush and had even changed her locks. Roush, however, maintained that she had remained calm throughout their disagreements.

During the investigation, Roush’s wife repeatedly denied any involvement in Gilbertson’s death. She claimed to have witnessed Roush giving Gilbertson a line of cocaine before she overdosed. When the police executed a search warrant at the mobile home, they found cocaine, methamphetamine, and fentanyl. Roush has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and is scheduled to appear in court on November 28.
