A Texas woman has been indicted on murder charges following an incident in which she allegedly shot a man she claimed had attempted to drug and kidnap her. The incident occurred near a winery earlier this year, as reported by law enforcement officials.
The woman, identified as Amy Lejeune, reportedly informed a winery manager about the incident, who then relayed the information to a 911 operator. Lejeune, a 45-year-old resident of Montgomery, claimed that she had recently met the victim, 49-year-old Lance Reid, a Houston native. The two were preparing for a weekend trip together when Reid allegedly attacked her in a car in Fredericksburg.
According to a statement from the Gillespie County Sheriff’s Office, emergency services responded to a 911 call on March 15, 2024, at approximately 12:42 p.m. The caller, later identified as Lejeune, claimed she had been kidnapped and drugged, and that she had shot someone. Her location was initially unknown but was later determined to be near a winery on East U.S. Highway 290. Lejeune was able to provide a description of the vehicle she was associated with and the weapon used.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered Reid’s lifeless body in the front seat of the car, with Lejeune standing outside nearby. After the shooting, Lejeune reportedly retreated to the winery and requested the manager to call the police. The ownership of the weapon used in the incident remains unclear.
Gillespie County Sheriff Buddy Mills stated in March that the details of the incident were primarily based on Lejeune’s account. However, subsequent investigations led authorities to believe that it was Lejeune who allegedly harbored deadly intentions.
Lejeune was charged with murder on October 8 and was released on October 15 after posting a $100,000 bond, as per jail records. She is scheduled to appear in court on January 9.
