One man faces a murder charge while seven others are accused of helping afterward or concealing the 30-year-old woman’s death.
RUTHERFORDTON, N.C. — An eighth person has been charged in the investigation into the death of Jordan Elaine Wishon, a missing 30-year-old woman whose remains were found buried outside a Rutherfordton home, according to authorities and public records.
Issaac Odell, 26, of Rutherfordton, was arrested July 9 on an accessory-after-the-fact charge and received a $350,000 secured bond, WCAB News reported, citing public and jail records. His listed address was on Pebblestone Lane, where investigators found Wishon’s remains. Authorities have not publicly described what Odell is accused of doing.
Odell’s arrest brought the total number of defendants in the case to eight. Jaydakis Kashaune Hamilton, 25, is charged with first-degree murder. Six other people previously were charged with accessory after the fact, and four of them also face allegations related to failing to report or concealing a death. The charges are allegations, and none of the defendants has been convicted in connection with Wishon’s death.
The investigation began after Wishon was reported missing from the South Church Street area of Mooresboro on June 26. Rutherford County sheriff’s investigators conducted interviews and began executing several search warrants later that day, according to the sheriff’s office.
At about 5:17 a.m. June 27, investigators searched a residence on Pebblestone Lane in Rutherfordton and found human remains buried on the property. Authorities later identified the remains as Wishon’s. People who knew her told local reporters that she had lived at the home.
Investigators obtained a warrant June 28 charging Jaydakis Hamilton with first-degree murder. Hamilton already was being held at the Polk County Detention Center on unrelated allegations, including motor vehicle larceny, reckless driving and resisting a public officer. Authorities have not released Wishon’s cause of death, identified a suspected motive or explained what evidence led to the murder charge.
The sheriff’s office announced six additional defendants on July 8. Christina Sue Hamilton, Stevon Kristoff Wilkerson, Ronald David Gibson, Tiquah Dominique Carter, Alexis Nicole Morgan and Shadrick Deon Hines were charged with accessory after the fact. Investigators alleged that the defendants helped Jaydakis Hamilton after Wishon’s death or otherwise participated in concealing what happened.
Morgan, Gibson, Hines and Wilkerson also were charged with failing to report or concealing a death, according to reports based on information released by the sheriff’s office. Officials have not provided detailed accounts of the actions attributed to each defendant.
Christina Hamilton and Carter were arrested June 29 and each received a $250,000 secured bond. Morgan was arrested July 6 and received a $350,000 secured bond. Gibson and Hines were arrested July 7 and each received a $350,000 secured bond. Wilkerson was arrested the same day and received a $580,000 secured bond, which authorities said also reflected unrelated outstanding warrants.
An accessory-after-the-fact charge generally alleges that someone knowingly assisted another person after a felony. It does not accuse that defendant of carrying out the underlying killing. Court records available in published reports did not show whether the defendants had entered pleas or retained attorneys.
Wishon’s death and the series of arrests have unsettled residents of Pebblestone Lane. Sharon Parker, who lives nearby, told WLOS that she felt sympathy for Wishon’s family and was troubled that such allegations had emerged so close to her home. Other neighbors described the area as a normally quiet community.
Family friend Glen Overhulser told the station that Wishon was kind and had helped him because he was elderly and disabled. An obituary said she was from Cliffside, had attended Mayland Community College and worked as a restaurant server. She also enjoyed cooking and swimming and was the mother of a daughter.
The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office said its Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate Wishon’s death. Authorities have not announced a motive, explained the relationships among the defendants or said whether more arrests are expected. No court dates in the homicide case had been publicly confirmed as of Thursday.
