Man Forced Kids to Stand Until Legs Went Numb

An Indiana resident, Curtis Bordenkircher, 35, is facing charges for allegedly abusing several children. The charges include four counts of neglecting a dependent with cruelly confining or abandoning, and two counts of intimidation with threatening to commit a forcible felony. The charges were filed this month, according to Hancock County Superior Court records, with the investigation commencing in October.

The relationship between Bordenkircher and the victims remains unclear. However, the case came to light when one of the children reached out to their mother via text message, pleading for help. This led to the arrival of Hancock County Sheriff’s Office deputies at a New Palestine home on October 15, where they were met with a series of allegations against Bordenkircher.

One of the victims, a young girl, claimed that Bordenkircher had physically abused her with a belt, forced her to stand in a corner until her legs became numb, and verbally abused her by calling her “dumb” and a “disappointment.” This information was revealed in a criminal affidavit reviewed by the Greenfield Daily Reporter. Another girl reported being pushed against a wall, choked, and repeatedly threatened.

The allegations against Bordenkircher extend beyond physical and verbal abuse. He is reported to have threatened the children with a knife, warning them that he would “slaughter them in their sleep” if they didn’t “shut up.” The children were allegedly made to stand in a corner for up to six hours, only sneaking off to the bathroom when Bordenkircher was not home.

A fourth child disclosed to authorities that Bordenkircher had whipped him while consuming alcohol from a tall beer can. The children indicated that this was a common occurrence. One of the children told Indianapolis-based Fox affiliate WXIN, “He drinks so much a day, and then he just gets mad at us. Beer, after beer, after beer.”

Bordenkircher was released on a $600 cash bond on November 6. As part of the bond agreement, he signed a no-contact order concerning the four children. He is due to appear in court for a pretrial conference on December 4. New Palestine, where the alleged abuse took place, is a small town located just east of Indianapolis.
