A 70-year-old man from Brooklyn, identified as Fredrick Howard, was fatally stabbed eight times in the chest during a heated altercation with a younger neighbor, according to police and law enforcement sources. The incident, which took place on Monday, was reportedly the culmination of an ongoing dispute between Howard and 31-year-old Josny Jean. Both men resided in the same multi-family dwelling on East 87th Street near Avenue M in Canarsie.
The severely wounded Howard managed to transport himself to the Brookdale University Hospital Center. Upon his arrival at approximately 1:10 a.m., hospital staff alerted the police about the situation. Unfortunately, Howard succumbed to his injuries less than an hour after his arrival at the hospital.
Jean, the younger of the two men involved in the altercation, was apprehended by law enforcement on Monday night. He was subsequently charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon, according to police reports.
The fatal incident is believed to have been the result of a longstanding disagreement between the two men, although the specifics of their dispute have not been disclosed. It remains unclear whether Howard and Jean shared the same apartment within the multi-family dwelling, or simply resided at the same address.
