A disagreement at a Davenport McDonald’s drive-thru escalated into a shooting incident, leaving one individual injured and three others facing legal consequences, according to local law enforcement. The conflict began when two patrons, Nicholas Jones and Peter Storrie, attempted to place an order at the drive-thru. Juan Soto, a McDonald’s employee, informed them that due to an influx of online orders, their request could not be accommodated.
Sheriff Grady Judd reported that the situation deteriorated when the customers allegedly threatened Soto. Surveillance footage captured the dispute’s progression from the drive-thru to the restaurant’s interior. Jones and Storrie reportedly entered the restaurant, continuing their threats. Fearing for his safety, Soto retrieved a firearm from his backpack and shot one of the customers in the neck, according to Sheriff Judd.
The injured customer, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was treated at a local hospital. Soto, who initially fled the scene with his firearm, later returned and cooperated with law enforcement. He is currently facing charges for tampering with evidence, while Jones and Storrie are being charged with disorderly conduct.
Sheriff Judd emphasized Soto’s right to self-defense, noting that the threats began outside the restaurant and continued inside. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and McDonald’s has not issued any comments.
The incident has sparked discussions about self-defense laws and safety in public spaces. The local community is urged to remain calm as the investigation continues. Residents are also being reminded to report any suspicious activities and to stay vigilant, especially in crowded areas.
