Softball Mom Killed Tragically During Game

A heartbreaking event occurred at a Pennsylvania softball camp when a mother was fatally injured by falling tree branches as she watched her daughter’s game. Gendie Miller, 49, and her husband, Bill, had taken refuge under a large tree to escape the 90-degree heat while their 16-year-old daughter participated in a scrimmage at the Western PA College Showcase softball camp.

The couple was engrossed in the game when Bill heard a loud cracking sound. He attempted to move his wife away from the tree, but it was too late. A small branch brushed his leg as he leapt from his chair. When he turned around, he discovered his wife lying face down, trapped under a pile of large branches.

Gendie was hit on the head by one of the branches, which caused her to lose consciousness. The softball coach, who later established a GoFundMe page for the family, recounted the terrifying scene. The fallen branches were significant, with many measuring between 10 and 12 inches in thickness.

Onlookers rushed to assist Gendie as emergency services were summoned to the scene. She was transported to Forbes Hospital in an ambulance. Medical staff were evaluating whether she could be airlifted to a more advanced trauma center when she ceased breathing. Gendie was later declared dead at Forbes Hospital.

Bill, who had been married to Gendie for 17 years, spoke about his wife’s dedication to their family. He described her as a committed mother who never missed any of her daughter’s practices or events, regardless of how far away they were. He also mentioned her generous spirit, stating that it wasn’t her heart that failed her that tragic day.

The GoFundMe page established for the family aims to ease the financial strain they now face due to this sudden and unexpected loss. All contributions will go directly to the family to assist them during this challenging time.
