President Donald Trump’s Mideast envoy Steve Witkoff says Iran cannot be allowed to enrich uranium, calls nuclear-armed Iran an existential threat to the free world.

President Donald Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff warned Wednesday night that the U.S. will not permit Iran under any circumstances to continue its uranium enrichment program, arguing that a nuclear-armed Iran would constitute an existential threat to the United States.
Witkoff addressed some 1,100 attendees of a fundraising gala in New York City held by the United Hatzalah emergency first responder organization, discussing U.S.-Israel relations, efforts to free the hostages held in Gaza, nuclear talks with Iran, and his telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier that day.
“Iran must never be allowed to enrich uranium or develop any nuclear capabilities,” Witkoff declared.
“A nuclear Iran is an existential threat to Israel. Iran possessing large quantities of missiles is no less an existential threat than the nuclear threat. And it is an existential threat to the U.S., to the free world and to all Gulf states.”
“We must stand resolute and united against this danger and ensure that Iran never obtains the means to achieve its deadly ambitions no matter what the cost,” Witkoff continued.
The White House envoy called Trump “an incredible friend to the Jewish people,” and joked that he could serve as Prime Minister of Israeli simultaneously while serving as president.
“No disrespect to Prime Minister Netanyahu, who I actually spoke to today, but I think President Trump could be the first sitting president who could be prime minister of Israel at the same time.”
