A tragic incident unfolded in a peaceful Ohio town this week, resulting from a case of mistaken identity involving a motorcycle, a woman, and her ex-boyfriend. The incident led to the arrest of 59-year-old Kenneth Wayne Brabant on charges of murder, evidence tampering, and assault. He is currently being held at the Preble County Jail.
Brabant expressed remorse during his court appearance on Wednesday. However, the judge advised him not to discuss the details of his case. The incident began on Sunday night when Leigha Huff, 41, was a passenger on a motorcycle traveling on Upper Somers Road in Camden, Ohio.
Simultaneously, the Preble County Sheriff’s Office received a non-emergency call from a woman residing on the same road. She claimed her ex-boyfriend was repeatedly driving a motorcycle near her home in an attempt to lure her outside. The woman also mentioned that her father, Brabant, was outside.
As Huff’s motorcycle approached, Brabant allegedly hurled a machete at the vehicle, hitting Huff in the leg. The man driving the motorcycle provided a chilling account of the incident, describing how he saw Brabant coming towards them and how Huff realized she had been hit.
In a desperate attempt to get help, the man drove to a friend’s house to call for assistance. Despite their efforts, Huff succumbed to her injuries before emergency personnel could arrive. As of Thursday, authorities were still investigating whether there was any involvement of a separate motorcycle or ex-boyfriend. They confirmed that neither Huff nor the man she was with had any known connection to Brabant or his daughter.
Preble County Sheriff Mike Simpson expressed uncertainty about the initial report of a motorcycle. He stated that someone had made the decision to confront the perceived threat, leading to tragic consequences for the victim. It was also reported that Brabant’s charge of evidence tampering was due to his initial concealment of the machete, which he later revealed to the police.
Camden, Ohio, a town located about 40 miles north of Cincinnati, is home to approximately 2,000 residents. This incident has undoubtedly sent shockwaves through the small, usually quiet community.
