A six-year-old boy from Southern California had a harrowing experience with a coyote during a softball game earlier this week. The incident took place at Del Amo Park in Carson, where Enoch Palomar was attending his sister’s game. Despite the traumatic event, the young boy is expected to make a full recovery.
The chilling encounter was partially recorded by a spectator who was filming the game. The audio of the recording captured the young boy’s screams as the coyote attacked him behind the softball field. The attendees of the game managed to scare off the coyote, which was last seen disappearing into the night.
Enoch recounted the terrifying experience, stating that the coyote initially chased him and bit him as he tried to flee. “It just kept biting me and I was trying to kick it,” Enoch said. “It was too fast and it just jumped. I was trying my hardest and then it didn’t work, and then I yelled.”
Upon hearing her son’s screams, Enoch’s mother, Melissa Palomar, rushed to his aid. She described the scene as hysterical, urging her son to get up and escape from the coyote.
The incident has raised concerns about the increasing presence of coyotes in urban areas of California. In recent years, these wild animals have been known to venture into populated areas, often targeting small dogs. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife estimates the state’s coyote population to be between 250,000 and 750,000.
